Pleasant Bay

Pleasant Bay encompasses 13 square miles along the shorelines of Chatham, Orleans and Harwich.  Protected from the Atlantic Ocean by a long barrier beach, the bay offers several islands, creeks and hidden coves for the boater to explore.

Highlights for our customers include time spent on the Outer Beach, a 2-mile long barrier island.  Only accessible by boat, this area typically sees fewer summer crowds than other popular Cape Cod beaches.  Pack a lunch and spend some time beach combing along the breaking surf of the Atlantic Ocean.

Cape Cod is also home to one of the largest concentrations of seals in North America (a recent survey estimated over 15,000).  Within the bay, customers are virtually guaranteed to see seals swimming and hauled out on the sandbars at low tide.

Additional highlights include Chatham harbor with its stately homes and famous lighthouse, and the commercial fish pier with its colorful fishing fleet.  All the while you’ll be sure to enjoy the windswept dunes and clean waters of Pleasant Bay and the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Beyond the bay, the open Atlantic Ocean stretches east just minutes from our dock.  Whales, dolphins, sharks and world class fishing await those joining our offshore trips.

Wequassett Resort & Golf Club

Set on 27 manicured acres overlooking Pleasant Bay, the Wequassett Resort & Golf Club regularly appears on the lists of the country’s top resorts and hotels.  Down Cape Charters & Boat Rentals enjoys an exclusive relationship with the resort, coordinating all boating related activities for its guests off of the Wequassett beach and dock.  All of our offerings are also open to the general public, as are all four of the resorts acclaimed restaurants:

  •  Twenty-Eight Atlantic –  the resort’s signature restaurant, enjoying the highest ratings on Cape Cod from Forbes, AAA and Zagat.
  • Thoreau’s –  a warm and intimate tavern-like setting adjacent to twenty-eight Atlantic.
  • LiBAYtion –  a beachfront bar offering the best water views on Cape Cod.
  • Outer Bar & Grille –  casual waterfront dining in an open-air setting with a spacious deck overlooking Pleasant Bay.
