Outer Beach Shuttle
This is a complementary service for resort guests.
Reservations are required as space is limited. Please contact the Wequassett Concierge team at (508) 432-5400 to reserve your seats.
No need to deal with traffic and crowded parking lots! Guests of the Wequassett Resort are invited to enjoy a complimentary boat shuttle to the Outer Beach, a gorgeous barrier beach located within the famed Cape Cod National Seashore.
Only 15 scenic minutes away, the Outer Beach remains blissfully uncrowded all season long and is the perfect way to spend a couple of hours or an entire afternoon. Passengers are dropped off on the bay side, where the views of the Chatham coastline can’t be beat and the waters remain calm and shallow. Just a short walk over the dunes, endless soft sand stretches for miles along the open Atlantic Ocean.
Please note that there are no facilities nor lifeguards at the Outer Beach. Beach chairs, umbrellas, towels and bottled water are provided. Please see the FAQ’s below for more information.
With advance notice, picnic baskets may be prepared by the resort kitchens. Click HERE for a copy of the Wequassett’s On-The-Water Dining Menu.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect to find on the Outer Beach?
This stretch of sand falls within the national park system, so in a word: nature.
There are no facilities on the Outer Beach (no restaurants, restrooms, boardwalks, cabana’s, etc). Passengers are asked to plan accordingly. Beach chairs, umbrellas, towels and bottled water will be provided by the captain. Everything else you might want/need for a day at the beach must be brought with you.
Are reservations required for the Outer Beach shuttle?
Yes, reservations are required for BOTH a departure and return trip. Since seating is limited at 14 passengers per trip, we ask that passengers put some thought into how long they would like to be on the beach. We will have to hold you to your return time unless there happens to be space on an earlier/later trip. We cannot always guarantee that such space will be available!
To make a reservation, please call us or the concierge team at the Wequassett Resort.
What should I wear? What should I bring?
Passengers should dress as they normally would to go to the beach! We always recommend one extra layer of clothing as its always a little cooler on the water. And since you will be getting on/off the boat in ankle/shin deep water, you should be prepared to get your feet wet.
Once at the beach, your captain will offer you a beach chair, umbrella, towel and bottled water. Depending on how long you’ll be staying, other items to consider bringing would be:
- sunscreen
- a hat, sunglasses
- snacks/food
- beach toys for kids
- one working cellphone per group (yes, there is reception)
What are my options for food/beverages?
Boxed lunches and picnic baskets are available for order 24 hours in advance from Room Service. Please call extension 6920 from a Guest Room phone. Otherwise, call 508-432-5400 from an outside line. Please let the cashier know that the boxed lunch will
be for the Outer Beach Shuttle.
Otherwise, guests can feel free to bring their own food and beverages. Complimentary bottled water will be available. Additionally, we recommend finger foods (small sandwiches, cheese and crackers, etc) as they are easiest to eat on a boat/on the beach. Foods with sauces will stain clothing and upholstery so are not recommended. For adults over 21, reasonable amounts of beer and wine are also allowed (please minimize glass containers). No hard liquor.
Any excessive use of alcohol will result in the immediate termination of your trip.
Are there any age restrictions or physical restrictions?
There are no age restrictions for the Outer Beach Shuttle. Groups with very young children generally opt for shorter stays (1-2 hrs). A simple out and back boat ride (without actually getting off on the beach) is also an option for those with infants.
Please note that the soft sands of the Outer Beach are not conducive to strollers.
Those with mobility issues must be able to walk down the resort dock (which has 2 short ramps) and step down into the vessel. At the beach, guests will step off of the boat into 6″-10″ of water. Very rarely are these things issues, but they should be mentioned. Our team will assist in any way they can to ensure that those with mobility issues are comfortable.
Do you provide life jackets for children?
Yes, we have life jackets for all shapes and sizes (even infants). While we recommend that everybody wear a life jacket on our boats, by law only those 12 and younger have to wear one at all times. Your boat will have enough life jackets on board for everybody in your group. Younger children are welcome to bring their own life jacket if they are more comfortable, provided it is Coast Guard approved (no arm floaties).
Are dogs allowed on the Outer Beach shuttle?
Guests of the Wequassett Resort are allowed to bring dogs on the Outer Beach Shuttle. Dogs must remain leashed at all times both on the boat and on the beach.
Cape Cod National Seashore regulations state that the only exception to the above is during shorebird nesting and migrating periods at locations marked with a posted sign. In the case of a posted sign being installed at or near our drop-off area, dogs would not be allowed on the Outer Beach Shuttle until the sign was removed.
Can you squeeze a 15th person onto the boat every now and then?
Unfortunately, no. Each of our vessels is rated for a certain capacity by the United States Coast Guard and the USCG does not differentiate between children and adults. A 14 person capacity means fourteen human beings – regardless of age.
